I know this is a bit late, but there miniatures are certainly not "half the price" of the competition. In fact, using a direct "amount of metal" to price comparison, I'd bet they're right about equal to GW. The difference is that you don't need to buy nearly as much to get playing.

And even GW seems finally to have realized that; they're latest White Dwarfs are putting together "warband" prototype rules that let you play with much smaller forces, and still get the Warhammer experience, for instance.
