RE: AU questions, concerns

Converted from Phorums BB System

Flight is not as powerful as it seems at first glance for two reasons:

1. A player race can fly naturally.
2. Some elemental air spells do bad things to airborne targets.

A mage might be able to get away with hovering out of reach and raining magical death on his opponents for a few times, but eventually either a squadron of spryte warmains, a hawk totem warrior, or a wind witch is going to end the party. Flight is also considerably slower than the D&D Fly spell, with a max speed of 60 and no ability to 'run' for better distance, a person on the ground could easily outpace a flying mage.

Sorcerous Blast is... well, it's an excellent 3rd level offensive spell, no denying it. Only the Magisters have unrestricted access to it, thankfully, all of the other spellcasters either need to take a feat or reach a high enough level for the elemental witches to get it. So even though it packs a punch, you can be fairly confident that not everybody in the world is going to be tossing that spell around.
