Converted from Phorums BB System
The Con modifier replaces the "0 HP bordering on unconscious rule" or standard D20. You still take pushing damage between 0 and your negative in Con modifier, so a character with Con 18 who is knocked to 0 HPs will be able to keep acting for foru more rounds before passing out and dying; you're still taking that point of pushing damage for each full round action you take during this period of near-death.
Really, it makes a lot more sense than clasic D20, in which semi-consciousness only happens if you are very luck to get EXACTLY 0 HPs in a round, and then you have only 6 seconds in which to do a full round action if you wish, before keeling over. The AU method lends to the drama of a combat, and the slightly more realistic feel. It balances well because, in my experience runnign AU, combat is deadlier....especially at lower levels.
