If you have declared all of your dice on your initial attack then you don't have any dice to buy initiative back.

You throw red I throw white.

You declare a full out attack with 14 dice (aggressors have to declare first).

I say screw defense and go offense. I declare 6 dice out of 14 in my attack.

I use the remaining 8 to buy initiative. That gives me 4 dice to boost your target number up so you will almost assuredly loose the roll.

No I won't. First off you only get to toss dice equal to my PER score and I assure you that it will be lower than my WIT.

Secondly there is a HARD LIMIT to the amount you can adjust my target number....that hard limit is YOUR WIT.

CONGRATULATIONS! At best you have improved your chances of winning initiative all up to the fantasic margin of 60/40 against.

For that you are now committed to an attack that will probably not penetrate my defense (I have armor too you know).

Before you go off like this, I suggest you read the rules.

--------------------------------------------
I go first - a free and clear shot with 6 dice. After this you are either dead, or wounded and your remaining options are all about how to just lose the fight and live another day instead of losing the fight and dying. Your response attack might never come. If it does it's going to be severely crippled from shock and blood loss.
--------------------------------------------

Actually no. If you actually read the rules on buying initiative, you would find that I am still likely to go first. The very best you can do is 50/50 and only if you get lucky.

For that you are commited to an attack that will likely not penetrate my toughness. That is why buying initiative is generally a piss poor idea.

In addition you are ceding the main point: Such a move requires a lot of PLAYER SKILL to know when to buy init and when not to (same with Countering).
