Sure. Some GMs may not be comfortable with Extras behaving like full-blown aspects, of course, but in general the concept is that an extra "box", checked, is a way for the player to say "and this is where this gives me an edge".

In the case of intrinsic extras that represent innate powers, for example, it might not so much be a "i get to reroll" or "i get a +1" as, "I have Fire Breath, so even though they've disarmed me, I can still attack them as if I were armed." -- or whatever.
