Converted from Phorums BB System

Ok, once more, because proditor became civilized.

Heh..that one was amusing actually.

Thanks, amusement is better than anger/annoyance/another synonym of peeved

And I wouldn't say I was angry, more annoyed. But after reading your latest post, I can see that it's more from a basic incompatibility of views, not something substantive. Let me lay it out.

We're not going to see eye to eye on this because of the following and hopefully this will end it from my side as well.

1) You see the value (Admittedly you feel it is overpriced) in a $40 rules set that is single use and comes with a setting designed for that single use.

2) I see the value in a $40 rules set that can be used for anything from Sci-Fi to Superheroes to Fantasy to Vampires, etc. etc., but I have to make my own setting.

At this point, we aren't even arguing the same thing, we're arguing differing points and expecting the other to address them.

-------------------------------
You're almost right, but I like where this is going, so I'm going to shut up, just this once.
-------------------------------

Sidepoint 1: No, I use Specious in my normal everyday speak.

-------------------------------
I know, I was just making a joke. Just remember that a smart man knows big words; a smarter man knows that using such just makes him sound like a douche But then again, that's really off topic, and I'm sorry.
-------------------------------

Sidepoint 2: I'll drop the jibes since you mostly did in your last post.

-------------------------------
I've never made any real jibes, just points, then I'd go "There ya go, Buzz" or "proditor". I didn't call you some of the other slang pronouns that came to mind, just calmly rationed it out (though I did get a little out of hand here and there, but I'm human, so go figure)
-------------------------------

Sidepoint 3: I typoed by/buy much like you did in your previous post (My, etc.).

-------------------------------
Just part of the specious joke, no biggie. We're only human, right?
-------------------------------

Sidepoint 4: I do write for fun and profit, but honestly that doesn't make my setting better than yours, yours better than mine, or a game designer's any better than either of ours (Confusing, eh?) Also, a degree might help clear up those pesky grammar, structure and spelling issues, but it doesn't address the core concept of creativity. Your setting might be leaps and bounds superior to a published one. That's where new RPG's come from after all. After all, none of us, game designers included, majored in "RPG Settings".

-------------------------------
This is where I disagree, mainly because if someone puts the time and effort and money into becoming a degreed author, it is because it is a passion of life. My passion of life is actually psychology, of which I am a student now, and I wouldn't want any random doof saying he knew my field better than me if he weren't degreed (and I don't want a random doof who thinks he can perform better surgery than a degreed Doctor operating on me).

I only say so for the sake of the writers who truly enjoy writing and have made it their life-long profession and passion.

On the other hand, "better" really is in the eye of the beholder. Truth must be told, but sometimes things are entirely objective, and that arguement really did go over the line a bit.

Conclusion: This has been one of the more polite "flames" I've gotten over the years, but at this point (assuming you did come back) any further discussion would be just that, us flaming each other. It is refreshing to see things done in a more genteel style as compared to say the old newsgroup flames.

-------------------------------
I don't think I was flaming, as flaming involves the phrase or equivalent of "you're geme sux he he LOL" and I don't believe I've stated that or it's like. I got close once or twice, but I've learned to never demean a game that has followers. The only game I make fun of is "FATAL", because only the idiot who wrote it likes it. I like to think I'm not a follower of any game, and have no favorite. I'm still looking for the "perfect system" and sadly, have yet to find it or craft it. It is a diamond in the rough, a distant star to sail to, perhaps even a Helen of Troy. That's why I write game systems, because I think that some day, I may stumble upon the veritable Philosopher's Stone of systems. The 8 pager was an example, I've written a 160+ page game book as well with complete setting. The system isn't perfect, but it's good. I also rewrote the rules for Star Wars d6, calling it "The D6 Strikes Back!", and I among others believe it is much better than the original and the new d20 monstrosity, but it is obviously not to everyone's taste (indeed, Buzz probably considers this blasphemy). I do it for fun, and because I can write a system in my sleep, but still wonder where the brains to make MEGS or FUDGE came from (so simple, yet so hard).

(more blasphemy): I'm currently writing a document called "Fixing d20". Guess what that does. Yep, 3.5 didn't fix it so I'm in the process of doing so. The first step? Admit it's broken. Second step? Discard the d20.

See, I told you I didn't like D&D in it's newest incarnation.

Hasta Lasagne and don' get any on ya, p

P.S. I was debating on whether or not to respond to Buzz's post, and I decided to regretfully decline because it A)didn't refute my point in the least and B)listed a bunch of games that have settings within them or prove my point moreso, and I don't want to bring these to his attention because A)I don't really care anymore and B)He's not going to accept the arguement anyway, no matter how plain, simple, and clear the point is. How's that for a run-on sentence?
