I think romance was handled fairly well in the game; it is assuming that those interested in this genre will primarily be roleplayer types, wanting to play things out instead of rolling for them. It's part of the "target audience" thing. (Those who just want to play magical girls so they can blast demons should probably go with BESM.)

For those Comic Book Guys who still think RPing shouju manga is a stupid idea, consider that most potential HeartQuest players are women, and that PCs in this game spend a great deal of time flirting and romancing with each other. Bring your tape recorder.

Re: Slayers, I could see a purely physical Lina/Nagah relationship, but otherwise I agree about sticking with canon couples.
