WotC needs to pay more attention to the movies, then. Ion cannons /ignore/ shields completely, so this mechanic makes no sense. See the Battle of Hoth in Episode V, in which the Rebels' KDY Ion Cannon fires right through a planetary defensive shield to take out a Star Destroyer for the example I'm talking about. I don't play this game anymore, so anyone who wants to propose a fix for this feel free to pipe up.

I think its you who has to pay attention to the movies. the rebles have to put the shield down to shoot the Ion gun. they say that about a dozen times if you have played any of the rouge squadron games or payed attention in the movies.
