Converted from Phorums BB System

Wow! What a great discussion site - some lively and intelligent discussion here - which make a real change for a forum ;op Lone Wolf fans are obviously made of far more noble stuff! )

I am a 30 year old gamer, who started with Lone Wolf books here in the UK in 1984:

"You are Lone Wolf. In a devastating attack the Darklords have destroyed the monastery where you were learning the skills of the Kai Lords. You are the sole survivor."

How much does that bring it all back!

I actually converted WHFRP to Magnamund (based on the Magnamund Companion and scouring of all the gamebooks and the novels) back in the early 90's and it was pretty good; Kai Lord and Magnakai were Advanced Careers along with Durenese and Sommlending Knights...

Although I have recently been down-sizing my gaming collection (it occupies over 20 large storage boxes and an entire garage!) prior to my wedding, this is definitely a game I will buy, especially if Mongoose can promise further, high-quality and faithful accessories?

As for the whole McDonalds/d20 discussion... I prefer to think of it like this:

Until mass production and mass acceptance pushes any new or fringe idea into the realms of the masses then that idea or product will not gain the critical mass it needs for continued survival and evolution. Look at the Model T Ford or the 486 PC etc. It is only when these massive 'monopolies' have pushed the product firmly into society that other companies and individuals have the luxury of experimenting to improve. I firmly believe that we are seeing the resurgence of role-playing, both tabletop, PC and online based. The disctinctions are blurring but the idea of RPG games is becoming more of an accepted norm (try being an 8 year old kid with a Basic D&D box back in 1982!). Microsoft may be accused of many things but at the end of the day it has brought cheap computing to the masses - even my technophobe parents love XP - and because of home-computing now being firmly established, the likes of the Linux developers can afford the luxury of trying to make an alternative...

So - WELL DONE Mongoose for bringing an awesome and long overdue gaming world into the light... I'm off down the shops.
