Converted from Phorums BB System

Well, almost every player I've run Amber with has played White Wolf before, so they tend to think of combat more in terms of Brawl/Melee, with Martial Arts (or "Do", for the Akashics among us) as a secondary skill.

In the game where I used a Strength/Warfare average for martial arts-esque combat, it worked fairly well - because I made it clear in advance what I was doing. In some ways, using an average like that actually forces players to bid up MORE on Strength than they otherwise might - a high Warfare but low Strength drags your Martial Arts skill down.

Most of my players knew in advance what sort of combat styles they wanted their chars to have even before the auction (one player made a swashbuckling pirate captain-esque char with high Warfare for swordfights on the high seas, while another made a char right out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), so everyone sort of picked out their "pet Attributes" and staked them out. The bidding wars happen when more than one player decides they want to be the next Fiona or Benedict. ~grin~
