Well, if Benedict was helping the person who said he killed the servants, presumably he did so in order to appear not to have a connection with Dara. If he had wanted to help Dara, he could have done so more effectively by telling his servants stuff that would have supported Dara's deceptions.
Trying to *make* Corwin think that Dara had killed the servants would be stupid, since they were killed to help prevent Corwin from suspecting Dara in the first place.
Also, I can't think of anyone in the series faking such a homicidal rage. It doesn't make sense to me, IMO, for Benedict's character. He isn't, say, Bleys...
