"...at the same time he was being held captive in that tower..."
Well, Fiona sort of explains that away at one point - basically, Brand was being held by the Eric/Caine/Julian group, when he escaped and travelled to Earth to find Corwin. It wasn't until after the attack that Fiona and Bleys caught him and locked him in the tower. Though that STILL leaves things a little hazy as to how Brand was later able to get Corwin committed - unless, of course, the "after" when Fiona and Bleys found him was after that, too. But then that only leaves about two weeks or so Earth-time for Brand to be locked away, contact Random, and start the chain of events which begins Nine Princes.
However, the most important thing to keep in mind, which explains BOTH the above confusion, as well as every single inconsistancy in the stories (of which there are quite a number), is that the entire Chronicles - Nine Princes to Courts of Chaos - is told by Corwin to Merlin, on the edge of the Abyss, right after watching his favorite sibling EVER die, and after Hellriding/running across the entire universe. Ohh, and add drawing a new Pattern in there, too.
Maybe Corwin forgot a few things, here and there. Or maybe he was outright lying. After all, while Corwin doesn't seem like the sort of person who would lie about things like that, our entire perception of Corwin COMES FROM THE STORY HE'S TELLING US. He could be the most evil character in the entire books, and we wouldn't know it. Maybe he never DID lose his memory, and it was all part of some intricate plan...
(Incidentally, THIS campaign online - http://www.hyperbolic.net/vanishing/ - has a fairly interesting take on the Corwin-as-liar theme)
