Well, as you said, you're a "traditional player" and were immediately turned off by some of the basic qualities of the setting. I tried to make it clear in my review that players who prefer a more Tolkein-esque or low-magic approach to D&D wouldn't like it.

But with that big caveat in place, I think Eberron is a great setting for people who are interested in a new, more "exotic" approach to D&D. Sorry if I focused on the positive, but the book's main job was to convey a new world, and I think it did an outstanding job of that. You're either going to like the world, which I tried to decribe clearly, or you won't.
