Actually, I detest the overproduction of the modern RPG book ... I am not paying for layout, I am not paying for two-inch-wide page borders, I am not paying for four pieces of original art per page. (I AM ALSO NOT PAYING FOR AN EPISODE GUIDE TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL, thank you.)
What I'm paying for is a playable set of rules that I can quickly teach and which ties in well to the genre; an exhaustive guide to the genre that will teach me anything I don't know; and a few adventure ideas, sample NPCs, and suggestions to spark my imagination.
Considering how many RPG books sell for $40+ when they should cost $20 and have half the page count ... these days, I get a better value at RPGNow than at my local game store.
This sounds like a seriously awesome game and a good value for the money. I don't have anyone to try it on now, but if I do I'll definitely keep it in mind. For FIVE DOLLARS, I'd put up with a Word document if the page count was high enough and I liked what it had to say.
