Converted from Phorums BB System

>So is there no lower limit to the crappiness of a layout that you will accept? Can an RPG be written in crayon on notebook paper?

If it's a kick ass RPG that, when you take it to the table, rocks your socks and gets everyone in the game enthused and rearing to play? Then sure, I'll pay money for it if it's written in crayon.

I'm not paying money for presentation. I'm paying for gamable material. Considering that with games I run frequently I hardly ever look at the books after a year of play, I find their quality to be increasingly irrelevant.

Conan, for example, is a gorgeous book – but there are enough annoying gliches in the system that I don’t care that it’s pretty, I care that I payed 50 bucks for a game in which I have to have fights with players over the rules. Wushu isn’t so pretty, but as of Pulp-fu, it’s a clear, fun game system that no one has problems playing. And for this I payed 5 bucks.

Of course, I also love Nobilis – so I suppose its closer to the truth that I can see both sides of the story. However, I love Nobilis because it is pretty and has a high quality game inside. If it was just pretty I honestly wouldn’t give a fvck.
