Levels

Converted from Phorums BB System

So if you're Conan and you're a 3rd level thief, you can kill a god and a high level sorcerer. I suppose those 18+ scores in Strength and Dexterity come in handy.

I love D&D, but the 'levels' model does not really fit fantasy heroes in fiction all that well, as this example shows. The Conan of Hour of the Dragon is not significantly tougher than the Conan of Tower of the Elephant - somewhat, yes, but not 17 levels worth. Young heroes in fiction are already baaaaad ass. Young heroes in D&D can't even tie their shoes. Hackmaster, as with so many other things D&D, takes this to its logical extreme with the quirks & flaws system.

Nice review! Yeah, the pastiche sucks. But the Barry Windsor-Smith adaptation of Red Nails shall live forever...
