Interestingly, "mana" means land of the dead in Finnish. It can also be used as a quality or a proper name (or other things pertaining to death) in different situations.

The meaning of "magical power" indeed originates from Polynesia. AKAIK it's the one of only two English words loaned from thereabouts, the second being "tattoo".
