Eberron is high magic compared to other campaign settings, in that it's got an economy based on it, much like a modern Earth economy might be based on oil, or another natural resource.
Take another campaign setting, and you look at the gp involved for most transactions, and you come to the realization that the only way you can get that level of monetary gain is through dungeoneering.
Give me a magic based economy over a dungeon based economy any day. The first makes sense, the second can not sustain itself without spiraling levels of inflation- Look at the dragonlance setting as an example where dungeoneering had devalued the gold piece to at or below copper, and the coins are made of steel, an actual useful metal.
