The term is just used by people who don't like the genre to decry it. Fantasy will continue to be succesful and popular and as such will always attract a higher percentage of lower quality material. That's fine as far as I am concerned I buy and use what appeals to me and not what doesn't. Criticismg somethning for being exactly what it sets out to be is beyond my comprehension. Moaning about another fantasy game is just facile.
