Said Ranger would probably trash any d20 "nova" of equal or even higher level, though. . .

In d20 Modern, a decent Army Ranger is probably level 5 or 6. That would allow you to have a number of autofire feats, a vehicle operation feat, and martial arts, as well as a decent number of skill points, and a level or two of the Soldier class if desired.
