The problem is that no future products appear to have such details planned for inclusion (going by comments Keith Baker has made elsewhere). And as for the maps, the problem is worsened by the fact that the regional maps included in the book are full of errors and inconsistencies (roads that don't join up, scales that are incorrect, etc) - which would be mitigated by the inclusion of one detailed master map.
Fans have now created such a map, which can be downloaded. But it's a big hassle to print this out - and it amazes me that WotC didn't see this as a basic necessary issue to deal with from the outset.
Likewise, the lightning rail and airships clearly deserve more detail - players and DMs will really want to play with these. Keith Baker said elsewhere that yes, floorplans would be a nice idea, but he can't see any upcoming books which would be suitable for their inclusion.
Overall, Eberron is great, but there are a few gaffes, and for my money, these omissions are the only really annoying ones.
Well, that and the fact that the Lightning Rail is called "Rail" - when in fact, there's no rail involved (the train hovers over a row of enchanted stones). This seems an unfortunate anachronism (similar to the all-too common gaffe in many fantasy novels where people talking about "firing" a bow; in a pre-firearm culture the word is "shoot").
Apologies for sounding grumpy and pedantic today. Must be something in the water... ;-)
