I'm not sure whether our American cousins are aware of the word's meaning but I can assure you that it's used (albeit rarely) here in Canada. Not exactly common parlance, mind you.

So yes, the choice was deliberate, more for its obscurely degenerate etymology than anything else.

Nice review, by the way. While hardly flattering, it did manage to come across (to this co-author and co-editor, anyway) as reasonably fair and balanced. You seem to have cottoned on to a number of things that a previous reviewer overlooked.
