Sorry to double-post, but actually this *is* realistic. Have you seen gut-wounds? Gut wounds are very seldom instantly fatal. It is the side effects of the wounds (such as bleeding and peritonidis(sp?)) that eventually kill. As such going by your example, GURPS seems to work quite well.

Nope. The issue isn't average damage, but maximum damage. By the rules as described by Matt, it is IMPOSSIBLE to do better, not just improbable.
