Just on the evidence that GURPS books are carried by bookstores like Barnes and Noble or Borders seems like evidence to me that they're one of the "players," if certainly not at the level of market leader WotC or primary competitor the Wolf. If you consider what's on the shelf at a Borders, it's going to have WotC, Wolf, AEG, Mongoose, and SGJ. I may have missed a bit but the list is pretty close.
