As I have mentioned in another thread, the focus on appearance is, in my mind, valid. I am not arguing that content is what makes a game worth playing, but appearance is highly important in selling the ideas. If I were too look at two examples of the same work, and one had solid art, nice borders, pretty tables and easy to read font, and the other was a text file, I would be much more inclined to read and try out the former than the latter. Human nature.

And this excercise is primarily a challenge for new game writers, who most often will have opportunity to sell their work if they self publish or publish in this kind of free forum. Selling your ideas is a skill we all need to learn. These works are admirable at a ground level, even for the people that score poorly, because a writer is putting themself on display and that is always harsh.

This experience has been a real eye opener for me, and I am hoping the same for everyone that has taken part. Sometimes the learning experience is painful. But to have a chance at a wider audience for our ideas, well, I think it is defiinately worth it.

And for those of us that can't do art: so we lose a point or two by comparison to those that can. They deserve the extra because they have more talent in that area.

Warm regards,
Evan
