I should have made it explicit that the show starts on 10 ratings points at the beginning of every episode, so there is not an unavoidable downward slide (although the idea is that the playters should be generally struggling with a lemon).

It's badly written so your (mis)interpretation is fair.

Also, and this is hinted in the background but I completely forgot to include it in the rules (and it's been bugging me ever since), but I wanted to include something like 'If every character manages to make a reference to democracy's or the American way's superiority to communism then the show gains a ratings point'. That might help the show run a bit longer, too.
