OK, fair point. It's been a while since I read Dune (I only read the first three, though), but yes, you're right, now I come to think of it.
Oh, man, you quit just before the big payoff! (IMO, of course.) God Emperor is the best of the Dune books, to my way of thinking--the best written, the most philosophical, the most grand in scope, and the most humane--which is a weird thing to say about a book whose main character is a 3000-year-old freak of nature, but there you are. I like the first three books just fine, but they're just prelude. (The last two by Herbert--Heretics and Chapterhouse--are okay, too, but not much more than okay.)
OTOH, God Emperor doesn't really supply much in the way of inspiration for a Fading Suns game--not unless you plan on doing some RADICAL things to the setting!
