RE: And the Guns?

Converted from Phorums BB System

"I absolutely see your issue with the game, and, like I have said, think you are doing right for yourself (and, I assume, for your group) by making the tweak you did. However, for me and my group, the disads of the new system (less fidelity) are overridden by the benefits (smoother, silkier play)."

True, it does have that going for it.

"Generally speaking, most of the weapons we think of for melee are pretty much about the same in terms of threat, at least as far as the stories I want to tell with nWoD are concerned. If you and I are in a room with the desire to kill each other (assuming we are both just gamers with no significant melee training), and there is a knife, a rapier, a "sword", and an axe sitting on a table in said room, it really doesn't matter which one we pick up, at least if we are sticking to a horror tale. The smart person would run because none of the weapons are ranged "

Well, I'm only somewhat smart, and would run for the sword. But that would give you a reason to prove yourself the smart one. 'That big guy had a freakin' SWORD, man!'

"If you want more realism, or at least fidelity to another genre, I can see tweaking the system in other ways. However, the characters my players will likely be making are not going to be concerned with which weapons they carry on them - in fact it is probably enough to have "knife" or "gun" as the two options in most tales."

Well, not so much realism as balance, as I'm working on Ravenloft for this system. But yeah, that's true. Check out the Solomon Kane novel review from last week for an even better description of how to use 'knife' and 'gun'. Even looks like a good book, too.

"Anyway, it has become quite clear that you "get" the new WoD system, but have decided that it is not to your tastes and play style. That is smooth and groovy and I wish you the best with it. I, on the other hand, will be rolling my single pool of dice in joyous glee "

Thanks, and good luck to you, too. Just make sure you duck when those greataxes come out! And... hell, look for me at the cons sometime if you're ever on this side of the pond.
