I'd tend to disagree. The axe-murderer usually doesn't seem to be particularly skilled with the axe. It's just a big, nasty weapon and the victim usually doesn't have anything with which to defend themselves. The insane scythe-wielding farmer overcomes the strong pitckform-wielding farmhand not because he's got more skill, but because it's a scarier weapon. In horror, scarier tends to equate to more dangerous.
But hey, horror isn't for everyone. I've gamed with many a player who argued for one thing or another based on "realism".
