I also have to say that I prefer this dice system to d20 as well. In d20, you have just as much chance of completely screwing up a skill as you do being average in it, which doesn't make since. In the 3d6 version, you have a much better chance (as has already been explained) to get variations of your average, rather then always getting near-critical fails and success all the time.
