You don't need piles of angst to have a role-playing game. Get real. To me, a cornerstone of a game being an rpg is that you are basing decisions on what your character would do, rather than on what you yourself would do. Most of the time, these decisions will be the same, but not always.

Whenever I played Paranoia, it was just a flimsy romp. Some humor, but not any real role-playing. I'm sure someone has had different experiences, but those are mine. Take it for what you will.
