I diagree. A chap should be able to see his work at whatever price he chooses. If professional lyaout and editing increase cost, bearing in mind that aesthetic appeal is not actually a function of an rpg, more a sort of luxury, then attemting to engage in 'professional' level production will merely debar many people from attempting authorship.

I like to actually reward designers; yet rarely can I afford to actually buy even a $12 rpg book these days. The indy market is entirely praiseworthy; after all it increases market choice, and leads to people having more to play, and wider choice.

The real drok in my opinion is over produced pap with full colour art, interior drwings etc etc. RPG art has absolutely no interest for me; I would much rather pay half the cost and not have some picture I barely notice take up space. I realise I may be unusual, but I like innovative ideas, rules, scenarios and advice to referres - as I said I don't even look at rpg art.

Also there is obviously no *necessary* correlation between professional and enjoyabilty or professional and well done.

Editing is essential; I was a victim of no editing on a product I wrote, and it is incredibly difficult to self edit and maintin grammarover a long project.

Anyway, just some quick thoughts. And btw, where is The Forge? I have heard of it but never seen it.
