Howdy,
>>As in, Michael Jackson, who authored all the Beatles' songs?<<
Mr. Jackson purchased the rights. This would be a total misuse of the word "author".
>>The fine men and women of the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, originators of Peter Pan?<<
Not a clue.
>>The factual error threw me completely off the review. I *like* Whispering Vault. I bought the original book. Twice. And most of the PDFs.<<
While all writers are authors, not all authors are necessarily writers.
Thus it’s not a “factual error” so much as it is usage of the word “author” in the same context that one might say a politician was the “author” of a certain bit of legislation. That doesn’t mean they actually wrote every word, or even any portion, of a bill. Merely that they were involved in a “directorial” role, much as a “producer” helps get a movie made.
>>Surely the PDFs have proper credits pages?<<
Indeed.
However I made a conclusion based upon the copyright attribution that, in hindsight, may have been a misassignment of roles.
I take this as an object lesson in fact checking. Next time, when in doubt, I shall avail myself of this new fangled techno widget called e-mail. I hear it's almost as good as regular mail!
In the meantime I will endeavor to rewrite that sentence to better reflect Mr. Reed's true involvement.
Let's see Phil Reed. . . "design guru", "PDF republisher", "mad monk of Malaband". . . ??
Kind Regards,
Chirs Morgan
