More people in the U.S. think about prairie dogs than you might think. I just recently learned from a friend in Michigan that you can buy them at pet stores, for example, or could until recently. (She says the little guys are unbelievably friendly.)

But something that makes prairie dogs particularly cool is a fact I read at one of our local zoos: Apparently, one prairie dog town is so vast that it's (IIRC) the largest communal habitat in the world (25,000 acres).
