The original guidelines for RPGnet reviews were far less strict than mine. Reviews of less than 100 words were posted as long as a single salient point was made. A few reviews get rejected each week for not having anything significant to say, or just being completely unreadable.
Are reviews running low right now? Yes, definitely, which is why I added the reminder to contribute reviews on the main page. But even if we were flush with reviews, this is still a contribution I would have run. I haven't run any self-reviews for a while, and tried slipping one in for a change of pace. There have been far worse attempts at self-promotion through RPGnet's reviews.
Though RPGnet has always allowed self-reviews, the idea of a subsection entirely devoted to designer notes is intriguing.
