RE: How 'obsolete' are 3e rules books?

Converted from Phorums BB System

The changes in the TL scheme scramble the chart entries in Ve2, but if you were willing to mix and match TLs before it's not that big a problem. It _is_ a bit of a nuissance to not have a "default "TL for Superscience items.

Vehicles wil now many fewer HP and designs from 3e and 4e will not be compatible. Weapion damages and armor levels seem to be about the same.

The biggest change is the Guns systems. The RoF and recoil rules are totally different and 3e weapons would all have to be converted to 4e values. The RoFs are the same numbers, but how you use them is pretty different. Recoil for 4e would have to be guestimated from the sample weapons given.

Martial Arts would have to be tweaked a good bit to use with 4e. Body Language is no longer a combat skill for example. Defenses and damages for MA Skills are also one of the biggest differences. Re-wrting all of the MA styles for 4e looks like a big job to me and I'd leave it for the 4e version of MA.
