And were those researched? I very much doubt it, as your numbers are way off for pregnancy from a single intercourse, IIRC. If you include very early term misscarriages ain 'conception' you might make ~60% for intercourse across the female's most fertile few days. From what I recall when I looked this up you 85% chance is for conception in a given _year_ of regular, several times a week, intercourse.

If the woman is too poor to afford whatever magical or high-tech health-care exsits in the game (if any) it could well be. If the person your character had sex with had AIDs or one of the nastier herpes, or syphilis and there's no decent healing magic in the game, it most certainly is a life or death situation.
