Converted from Phorums BB System

Games Workshop used to (possibly still does) have a nice scheme going in their stores, whereby one copy of each game or big boxed supplement would be unwrapped on the shelf, with a big yellow sticker saying 'Customer Open Copy' on the front.

They'd never sell that copy (or maybe the manager would let it go for peanuts at the end of the product's run, because someone would have stolen half the models out of it, and the rulebooks would be a little dog-eared), but it gave you a great way of looking inside at all the cool stuff, evaluate the models, that kind of thing.

If more RPG stores could do that with the shrink-wrapped books, even if it was just the larger ones. I know I'm always hesitant to buy a book without flicking through it first, to see if it's readable.

Admittedly, if it's crap on the inside, I won't buy it. That's why I haven't bought D20 Modern yet, because the interior artworks too cartoony. (Although I took a risk and bought the Weapons Locker - for research purposes - even though that was shrinkwrapped. Fortunately, it's perfectly laid out and well written, without the trademark WOTC over-splurge of colour.)
