Greetings,

First up, thanks for finding that quote R Check!

I know it may sound "insane" :-) but BSG was firmly rooted in the Bible, or at least Biblical mythos. It's sort of a cross between the Exodus story and a tale of a "Pearl Harbor" like attack. In fact, if you pay very very close attention to some of the battle mentioned in passing, then look those names up... well... you'd be surprised.

<<I've read some pretty gushing reviews, actually. Most negative ones I've read seem to find fault in changes from the original format.>>

I can second that. Granted I've had to avert my eyes a lot to avoid spoilers but, on the whole, the consensus has been...

1) If you can forget that the series is called 'Battlestar Galactica'- something that a more than few folks seem to think was the real mistake here, re-using the original title, rather than just giving it a new title with a caveat like "Based on the original series..."- then the series, though a bit slow at times, is promising.

2) If you've never seen the original, and thus have no baggage, the series, while not the best sci-fi that's ever been on TV, is far from the worst. And might be even good.

Personally the fact the series actually aired soemwhere else first, while vexing, actually might bode well. Sciffy hasn't had a very good track record with it's first run series. :-(
