<<Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, what may be the grandfather of such series as the original Battlestar Galactica, was one of the first stories of alien domination of Earth, and was written in the early 1920s in serial magazines, with a novel and comic strips soon to follow.>>
That's a very good point.
Furthermore we tend to forget the early years of "scientifiction" were dominated by the dime novels, which evolved into the "pulps" and that "space opera" was originally a pejorative, as was the term "pulp fiction"!
Yet look at what dominates genre fiction now.
<<The Hans constructed their great shielded cities and gradually forgot about the "savage tribesman" outside their walls. Those same tribesmen rediscovered their own science, carved out a new, secretive way of life, and began building new weapons to overthrow their hated overlords, each day dreaming of the day when they would step up and destroy the Han oppressors.>>
So THAT is where "Battlefield Earth" got it's plot from!!! ;-)
