How to Win the Game

Converted from Phorums BB System

Another topic I forgot to mention: Transcendence.

When a player rolls a 22 on 2d6 + skill, this is construed as a transcendent success. The character has achieved divine perfection and exits the story posthaste.

It's a simple, built-in retirement system: if you get that good, you're pretty much unstoppable and therefore of little narrative interest. Your character goes on to fulfill his or her destiny, and you can start afresh.

This mandatory retirement may not appeal to everyone, in which case the rule can easily be ignored. But it is only possible to roll a 22 when you've boosted your skill to 10 thanks to a conscious decision. If a player hits skill rank 10, he's basically asking for a personal endgame for this character.
