The setting is supposed to be full of weirdies, which is why people were forced to live in walled cities, as opposed to a more rural existance.

Anyway, I think it works better as a noir setting, as opposed to pulp, because noir tends to be dark and somewhat creepy.

The novels are actually pretty good, and should sell for cheap as well. (I got them for a buck a piece on ebay).
