Converted from Phorums BB System

>>I don't know if I would call you a fan-boy, <<

Ah. I guess I took the statement that "There are a lot of Hero fan-boys. . ." to be aimed in my direction.

>>However, you (and others) should be willing to admit that FRED has flaws. The skill system happens to be one of them which brings me to the second point. . .As for "cost too much", I can actually compare that with what you could have bought in HERO. <<

I'm with you now. I took you to mean that raising skills was too expensive, which I thought odd since, being on a level scale, skills are far easier to elevate than, say, in GURPS. As to your true meaning, I agree that there is definately a disparity, but actually in low-powered games it doesn't really matter. Given that you don't have to build weapons or other equipment with points, and most superpowers are either out of reach or built into a narrowly defined set (such as racial attributes), the cost of superpowers is moot. Even Psi powers in B5, while potent are fairly narrow in scope.

As to GURPS: I was in a couple of GURPS campaigns some years ago. I liked the system in many respects, but the sparse Attribute list annoyed me. Liked the system in general, though.
