Descriptors as they appear in CoS can be found in Over the Edge, except they weren't called descriptors, but Signs. I might be mistaken about what they were called, but they do exist in OtE and are used in almost the exact same way as descriptors in CoS.

The combat system is... well, just a generic extension of the Die Roll + Modifiers with special attacks made up on the fly (something that many roleplayers have been doign since OD&D came out).

Don't get me wrong, CoS is a fine game - I merely have some reservations about alluding to the system as innovative (again, the setting is most assuredly that).
