Oh no. It was in the AD&D players handbook. Just look at the combat tables just after the fighter/ranger/paladin section. There is a small table that talks about # attacks per round at higher levels. The information in question is right under the table.

I didnt even notice this myself when I first got the AD&D book (20+ years ago) But its in there.
