Converted from Phorums BB System
IIRC Advanced Heroquest wasn't an attempt to revive Heroquest, I'm sure that in the UK at least they were published at the same time.
Heroquest was published by a games company (MB) while Advanced Heroquest was published by Games Workshop, however GW was behind both of them. I think the idea seemed to be that the simpler board game made by a known family games company would tempt new gamers in and if they liked it then they might dip their toes into the advanced version published by that "unknown" games company. Toy stores were also more likely to stock the simpler game as it was made by a reputable company and thus the potential market was much wider.
I'd be curious to know how well GW's technique worked, given that they didn't repeat it when Warhammer Quest was released I suspect it wasn't an overwhelming success.
