Oh, okay, now I see what the reviewer meant. Yeah, the dungeon in the red boxed set from the early 80s was more cohesive than this one. The fighter had a few encounters that all led up to Bargle the Wizard. That kind of backdrop is what drew me to the game - it wasn't about killing the skeletons; it was about defeating Bargle.

That said, less complicated games often work for the noob. Is the scenario in the new boxed set "Good"? No, but it's there to show off the mechanics, not the role-playing side of the game. One's needed to fulfill the other.

Could the boxed set have been better? Yeah. But, it's still tons better than the "Dungeon Quest" type board games that were intended as intros in the 80s.
