Actually, you're wrong. The free updates are the same sort of thing that EverQuest provides in their free updates, if EverQuest chose to pile up all their updates into three-to-six month piles.

City of Heroes has paid expansions just like EverQuest does. The first, City of Villains, will be in beta testing shortly.
