I think you're being unfair to WoW, unless there's a game before it that let you level almost entirely off of quests. WoW does have some original points to it, and just as importantly, it's dumped most of the unfun stuff of other MMORPGs and polished the bejesus out of the good stuff. That alone puts it ahead of most MMORPGs in my mind.

And I hear you about CoH following MMORPG conventions instead of superhero ones. There are perhaps a handful of superhero healers in the comics, yet they're omnipresent in CoH. CoH took the EQ class design basics, and inserted healers and crowd control into the game as crucial elements, despite them not really fitting the genre. It's like they didn't trust the superhero genre to work on its own, but had to rely on what had worked in fantasy MMORPGs before.

I greatly enjoy CoH, but the moment I saw healers and crowd controllers, I felt a serious twinge of disappointment.
