Basically, there's two camps for Gamma World after all these editions. (1) Old School, This-Is-So-Campy-I-Wet-My-Shorts fans, and (2) Kewl-post-apocalyptic-noir fans.

GW started off trying to appeal to (2) and has now slid over to appealing to (1). They should have stuck with (1) because (2) is covered by a gazillion other systems out there. I was disgusted with this edition of GW because it took itself soooo damn seriously. Sorry, tough to compete in the SF genre.

Easy to compete in the This-Is-So-Campy-I-Wet-My-Shorts genre. (What else is there? Star Munchkin?)
